What kind of man will be seen in the streets next season?
Usually the fashion year begins with London Collection Men (LCM) but this year the name is changed and from now on it will be Fashion Week Men (FWM).
I have to admit that this year the London week quite disappointed me. The collections weren't so great and the atmosphere was not that exciting. Milan, instead was brilliant!
The autumn/winter 2017 men collections presented in Milan were very interesting.
Ermenegildo Zegna's collection aimed to the fluffiness! The collection is characterized by baggy and comfortable trousers, boiled wool suit, soft fur coats and indispensable cute beanie and gloves to front the cold winter. For once I see a collection that wanted to make winter clothes chic but at the same time warm.
Diesel Black and Gold opted for rough fabrics like denim and leather in contrast with cashmere sweaters and soft cardingans.
The trousers are baggy but with a tailored cut, accessorized with belt made of ropes. The must of the collection are the heavy leather combat boots.
Emporio Armani followed a little bit the idea of Zegna with the baggy wool trousers, differentiating the collection with geometrical patterns for shirts and double breasted blazers or entire suits.
The predominant fabrics are wool and boiled wool accompanied with fur and velvet.
Accessories like hats, a sweater on the shoulders, mirrored sunglasses, fur scarves or collars are a must.
Dolce & Gabbana this year aimed to young celebrities! Domenico and Stefano chose few professional models and A LOT of young celebrities to walk for their show.
They "hired" Jude Law's son Rafferty Law, Pamela Anderson' son Brandon Lee, Cindy Crawford's son Presley Gerber, actor Avan Jogia, the actual model and Pixie Lott's boyfriend Oliver Cheshire, the model and writer Jack Guinness, the internet personality Cameron Dallas and the youtuber Marcus Butler and Jim Chapman. As an italian and fan of fashion, it should be a very big achievement for these young men to walk for one of the most famous fashion brand in the world.
I have to admit that I like the idea of D&G Princes but in my opinion, they should have aimed just to few strong "princes", instead of a mass of young men celebrities.
The collection as always was eclectic and particular with a lot of patterns, sweaters with big stamps claiming the theme of the collection such as crowns, royals embrodery or uniforms.
Velvet, brocade and silk were the most used fabrics accompanied with gold buttons, little details and the unmistakable lavish slippers.
Versace seemed take inspiration for the collection from Matrix: Glamour edition and I like it!
The suit are very sharp but the patterns and fabrics used make all more fashion. The trousers are not ankle lenght but they are super long, over the shoes.
The collection is characterized by high neck cashmere sweaters, eclectic coats, dark colours such as purple or black and maxi fluffy wind jackets in bright colous like red.
Prada collection came from a 70's movie! The collection is studed by leather.. leather for days!
Leather blazers, leather trousers, leather coats and even leather berets!
The must of the collection were definitely fluffy sweaters, velvet suits, suede jackets and fur and leather coats.
What do you think about the inspirations behind these collections? I really liked these designers because they thought about comfort and warmness during winter without neglecting the glamour of fashion itself.
That's all for now
Talk to you soon!
