Fashion in the Big Apple

Fashion week! Fashion weeks! I think those weeks are the busiest of the year! Week after week from New York to Paris in a frantic succession of amazing dresses, catwalks, designers, models and parties in the most beautiful cities. So, let's begin with New York!

Summer is finished but we are already thinking about the next one and its trends!

Alexander Wang chose  bikini tops all laced on the stomach leaving bare the tummy, bermuda shorts with lace on the hems, stripy, floral and animalier fabrics are a must in the collection.

Brandon Maxwell is keeping his classy style with simple lines, cut outs long dresses, crop trops, long and fluffy skirts, some ruches to juice up a simple dress and shiny silk in contrast with matt one and different types of fabrics to emphasize the contrast.

Carolina Herrera based her collection on black, white and blue but most of all on the innovation of the fabrics: she used a lot of denim. At a certain point I've though "Did she take some inspirations from the iconic denim outfits of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake?" and "Is she crazy?".  I have to admit that those couple of outfits in denim are not my favourite.
But then the black and white silk and lace dresses are a dream! So classy but at the same time very modern, models that can be worn by every girl on super glamorous occasion.

Michael Costello opted for a very sexy woman who can't get enough of being super elegant.
His must are dark colours such as purple, black, bordeaux, red and green, with deep tears and neckine, silk and a lot of lace, but most of all sequin, floral applications, transparancies and velvet.

Jenny Packham aimed to the sequin like always and she always wins! Jenny Packham has the ability to mix together sequin, sheer and silk to produce an elegant creation without making it too predictable.
Jumpsuits, wide sleeves and sheer and lively sequin are definitely a must for this collection.

Marchesa created a collection where it is dressing the nymphs of every season and element, from spring to winter, from water to fire, from flowers to crystal. A real collection that was inspired by the nature and transfored into  proper pieces of art. Using exquisite fabrics, transparencies and intricate embrodery, Marchesa was able to dress the characters of proper a fairytale.

Marc Jacobs for this collection opted for something eccentric, electric colours, lively prints and sky- high platforms. Tight high waisted jeans and jeans jackets with fluffy shoulders and colourful dreads are a must for this collection.

Monique Lhullier chose to dress a young princess with soft and wide dresses or light chiffon dresses.
Of course it couldn't be missed the right amount of sequin and sparkling fabrics with embrodery applications. Silk, chiffon, bows, feathers and a little bit of fur are a must for this princessy collection.

Naeem Khan chose a mix of floral patterns, colours blocks and contrast between spearkling and matt silk.
The collection seems to pass from the colours of the sunrise to the sunset, passing from spring flowers to late summer one, till geometrical blocks with colours' contrasts, adding a little bit of cultural expansion with a reinvented indian sari. In my opinion, this collection covers a lot of different styles and fashions.

Oscar De la Renta, for this collection, chose a range of colours that goes from black, to white, passing through gold and some turquoise. The wire that connets all the pieces are applications made in little pearls, sequin, embrodery or in feathers.
The fabrics used go from the softest and lightest silk and chiffon to the more thick organza to give some volume and shape to the skirts.

Reem Acra created a very young and fresh collection but that can at the same time be super glamorous without lose its appeal.
Transparencies are definitely a must of the collection; passing from a starry night made by black sheer studded in sparkling gems to an early spring morning with a white sheer mini dress with tiny black flowers all over, we end in a fiels full of pink flowers on a black sheer shimmering dress, diving into a bouquet of blue ruches.
I think that this collection is more like a trip into nature made into fashion.

Christian Siriano is amazing like always and chose to put on the catwalk not just usual models but also "plus size" models. I love this, so much!
This collection reminds of spring and summer on the cote azur, Nice and Montecarlo! Lively and bright colours with a hint of floral for the day and black and white for the night or if you feel too glamorous a see-through black dress with a straw wide hat and a big pair of sunglasses for the beach. I love this concept!
